Hosted a luncheon forum on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the City Club - Los Angeles, to bring together the Hispanic/Latino Employee Resource/Affinity Groups in the Los Angeles area.
CHCCLI gathered the leaders of 13 Latino Employee Resource Groups (ERG) and 2 CHCCLI community partners, Proyecto Pastoral and USC Latino Alumni Association (USC LAA) in a unique forum held at the City Club. The Latino ERG Forum was generously sponsored by Southern California Edison, Veronica Gutierrez, Vice President of Local Public Affairs. The goal of the forum was to identify best practices among the groups, develop ways that the groups can drive value to their respective companies, establish ongoing forums and partnership opportunities with CHCCLI, and discuss volunteer opportunities with Proyecto Pastoral and USC Latino Alumni Association. Participants in the forum discussed key issues including how to engage and expand their ERG groups, how to attract the younger generation of employees, how to integrate ERG’s into the company’s business model, how to get commitment from middle management and leverage the ERG in reaching the Latino market.
Domenika Lynch Executive Director of the USC Latino Alumni Association shared with the participants how this organization is leveraging CHCCLI programs for both USC students and alumni. Ms. Lynch also talked about the upcoming USC LAA/CHCCLI mentoring program partnership.
Fatima Djelmane, Associate Director of Proyecto Pastoral, a community based organization in Boyle Heights, provided examples of using volunteer opportunities as team building activities as well as a way to build leadership skills.
The 93% of the participants that attended the CHCCLI Latino ERG forum rated the overall effectiveness of the forum as very effective. The next meeting of the Latino ERG leaders will take place during the first quarter of 2012.
CHCCLI is proud to have taken a leadership role in organizing a first of its kind meeting of Latino ERG leaders in corporate America and initiating the dialogue to share and strengthen the best practices that will help Latinos move forward in their careers.
