2011 Speaker Series
CHCCLI kicked off the 2011 Speaker Series with First Deputy Mayor Austin Beutner, Office of Economic & Business Policy, for the City of Los Angeles. The event was held at the City Club on Feb 23rd. CHCCLI members and guests had a rare opportunity to hear first hand from Mr. Beutner about his philosophy and strategy for making Los Angeles more business friendly. Mr. Beutner began the evening by sharing information about his background and humble beginnings. His parent’s favorite quote to their children “get an education and then get a job” set the foundation for Mr. Beutner’s work ethic.
Mr. Beutner shared the following key points on his vision for doing business in Los Angeles:
- Listen first if you are to make a difference. Success is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration
- Volunteer your time, it will make a difference
- Doing more with less...cut cost, communicate with customers, defer costs and create smart systems
- It starts with Leadership
- Transparency in business is key if you are to create a level playing field.
- Challenge the status quo and make policy changes when warranted
- Hope and promise will create energy in Los Angeles and promote business growth
