St. John the Baptist Church Social Services Program is hosting an inaugural Cesar Chavez Day Interfaith Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Parish Hall in Baldwin Park. It will be a reflection on Cesar Chavez’s life and an event working to unite the San Gabriel Valley. As a faith-based group, the Social Services Program sees Cesar Chavez as a great model with his energy, faith and tenacity working together to serve the poor and underserved.
This event will draw together parish leaders, clergy from many denominations, and local political, business, and community leaders as we honor the memory and work of Cesar Chavez. Assemblyman Dr. Ed Hernandez and Dr. Luis Cruz, principal of Baldwin Park High School, have been invited as guest speakers.
This breakfast will help raise much needed funds for the Social Services Program, which seeks to help people who are struggling through short-term and long-term solutions, including a food program, education, job placement, citizenship processing, bettering their health, aid in accessing government services, community involvement, emergency aid and counseling, including domestic violence situations. In addition to serving the diverse working-class community of Baldwin Park (92.7% non-white), the program serves clients from throughout the area, reaching as far as South Los Angeles and Pomona. The program’s goal is to grow and reach more people throughout the area, especially during this time of economic distress for the San Gabriel Valley.
Your presence at this event would be a great factor in ensuring its success. The event offers three levels of sponsorship: $500 which includes an announcement by the Masters of Ceremony, a table sign, mention in the program, and two tables (16 tickets); $200 which includes an announcement by the Masters of Ceremony, a table sign, mention in the program, and one table (eight tickets); and $100 which includes an announcement by the Masters of Ceremony, a table sign, mention in the program, and two tickets.
