Board Member - Juan A. Torres
Juan A. Torres is a Litigation partner in the firm's Los Angeles office. He has a vast and expansive experience as a commercial, employment and insurance defense litigator in federal and state courts, including bankruptcy courts. His experience includes a wide variety of business disputes; discrimination claims in the employment, housing and general business sectors; malpractice claims against professionals; and construction defect, products liability and personal injury claims.
Mr. Torres's mission is to zealously represent his clients and resolve matters in the most efficient and efficacious manner. He has had much success in negotiating the resolution of claims based on terms that are favorable to his clients. Mr. Torres speaks, reads, and writes fluently in Spanish, which he frequently utilizes in his litigation practice. He has made training presentations in Spanish.
Mr. Torres has volunteered as a Judge Pro Tem, arbitrator and mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court since at least 1992. He has made presentations on various topics in the employment arena as a panelist in seminars sponsored by the California Continuing Legal Education of the Bar, and served as a member of the Trial Skills Sub-Committee of the California State Bar.
Mr. Torres has served as a member of the Board of Directors of several non-profit entities, including the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice, California Alumni Association, and youth sports organizations. He also served as a member of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes Parks and Recreation Open Space Task Force Committee. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the California Rural Legal Assistance, Little Company of Mary Hospital Community Foundation, and Peninsula High Diamond Club. He is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Mexican American Bar Association. While attending law school, Mr. Torres was a member of the Moot Court Board, managing editor of the La Raza Law Journal, treasurer of the student government body, and president of his class. He was the recipient of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund's Judge Luis Garcia Memorial Scholarship and the Boalt Hall Raza Alumni Scholarship.
