Past Board Member - Lupita Sanchez Cornejo

Lupita Sanchez Cornejo is Director of External Affairs for AT&T Communications, Inc., focusing on legislative and community affairs for the Los Angeles region. In this role, she serves as the company's governmental liaison for elected and administrative officials in the City of Los Angeles. She is also responsible for legislative activities and issues involving the Los Angeles Board of Education.

In her role with the company, Ms. Sanchez Cornejo is responsible for community outreach in Los Angeles, representing AT&T on a variety of organizations and boards, including: California Forensic Science Institute at California State University, Los Angeles; California Hispanic Corporate Council; City of LA Community Advisory Board for Human Services Delivery; Los Angeles Workforce Investment Board's Youth Advisory Council; Padres Contra El Cancer; and the USC Mexican American Alumni Association Endowment Committee. In 2001, Sanchez Cornejo was appointed to the independent Proposition BB Blue Ribbon Oversight Committee, which supervised spending associated with renovation and construction of schools in the country's second-largest school district.

Prior to joining AT&T, Ms. Sanchez Cornejo served as Assistant Deputy Mayor to Los Angeles Mayor Richard J. Riordan, focusing on City Council relations, legislative and policy matters, and public affairs.

Ms. Sanchez Cornejo is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a Bachelors' degree in Political Science and a Masters' degree in Public Administration. She is a former NALEO State Legislative Fellow, a graduate of Coro's Leadership Southern California, a regional issues leadership-training institute, HOPE's (Hispanas Organized for Political Equality) Leadership Institute, and Leadership Los Angeles.

Ms. Sanchez Cornejo is closely integrated with the key political, business, and community stakeholders of Los Angeles, its region and the state. She has a unique perspective into a variety of issues facing the region - giving her a deeper insight and understanding into the inner workings.
